Why You Should Inspect Your Sewer System

5/30/2016

PictureThe home owner is responsible for the main Sewer line, from the house to the property line where it connects to the City line

Well you see, the main purpose of a Sewer Scope inspection is to determine the condition of the property's sewer line and to see if the system is functioning properly as part of your house inspectors duties, should a home owner decide to get the recomended sewer inspection. And if the sewer line passes inspection, the seller is released from future liability, leaving the new home owner with nothing but a sewer system that is  in:
  1. Excellent shape
  2. And will not need any major repairs that will break the bank.
Lets say you are looking at a home for you and your family, and everything seems to be going great! Home inspection was a go, Radon test was a go, and the sewer lines appeared to be functioning well. It is hidden issues with the sewer pipes that all too often seem to go unchecked and before you know it, BAM! these problems cause a future sewer backup leading to an unexpected, unwanted, emergency repair or replacement.
So in a nutshell, getting your sewer line inspected is important because:
  • It allows you to see the condition of the lines and spot any potential problems
  • Allows you to continue with your new home plans with no surprises later $$$
  • If you are selling a property, you will no longer be responsible for future problems
  • And it goes without saying, you will save thousands of dollars of repairs or replacements

Thanks for the knowledge! That is very useful information. A few of my co-workers had similar issues with their homes and if they would have known about getting their sewer scoped, it would have definitely saved them a lot of money. I actually have an aunt and a few friends up in Colorado, I will be sure to tell them about Peak Home Inspections. Great job on the blog btw! (:

It got me when you said that having the sewer inspected will save you from huge issues since underlying problems will be detected as soon as possible. I guess I need to call professionals now to ensure that we are safe. It just came to me to have it checked since I have been smelling bad odors from the system that reaches the parts of the house now.
